Cookie policy
Last updated August 2026
This policy explains how BuffHaven, run by BuffHaven Media, uses cookies and similar browser storage. It expands on the "Cookies and similar technologies" section of our privacy policy.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store, so it can recognise your browser on a later visit. "Similar technologies" covers things that do the same job in a different way — local storage, session storage and device or advertising identifiers. Cookies can be set by the site you are visiting ("first-party") or by another company whose content is embedded on the page ("third-party"). They can last only for the current visit ("session") or for a set period ("persistent").
Cookies we set
BuffHaven sets no first-party tracking or advertising cookies. The only thing we store in your browser is:
bh-theme— a single local-storage value that remembers whether you chose the light or dark colour scheme. It is strictly functional, stays on your device, is never transmitted to our servers, and is not used to identify or track you. Clearing your browser storage removes it, and the site simply falls back to your system default.
Our analytics are cookieless and privacy-respecting: they produce aggregate counts (page views, referrers, country-level location, device type) that do not identify you individually and are not shared or combined across other sites.
Third-party cookies
Some cookies on BuffHaven come from third parties whose content we include, and are governed by those companies' own policies rather than ours:
- Advertising — when display ads load, our ad partners may set cookies or use device identifiers to serve, cap, measure and personalise ads. Partners may include Google (AdSense / Ad Exchange) and the vendors they work with. See how Google uses data from partner sites.
- Affiliate links — following an affiliate link (marked
rel="sponsored nofollow") may cause the destination retailer to set a referral cookie on their own domain so a resulting sale is credited to us. See our affiliate disclosure.
We do not control these cookies and we do not receive information from them that identifies you personally.
Managing cookies
You are in control:
- Browser controls — every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, block third-party cookies specifically, or clear site data. Check your browser's help pages for "cookies" or "site data". Blocking the
bh-themekey only means your theme choice will not be remembered; nothing else on the site depends on storage. - Ad-industry opt-outs — you can opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies at optout.aboutads.info (Digital Advertising Alliance), youradchoices.com, and, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.
- Device settings — on mobile you can reset or limit your advertising identifier in the operating system's privacy settings.
Changes
If our use of cookies changes we will update this page and its "last updated" date. Questions: see our contact page or email privacy@buffhaven.com.
